Catalog published on the occasion of the exhibition, Étoiles distantes, presented at the Frac des Pays de la Loire, Nantes Site from November 27, 2021 to February 20, 2022.
The exhibition, initiated by the Frac Pays de Loire for the inauguration of its new branch in Nantes, is part of a long-term approach of logistical, financial and curatorial support provided to the young French artistic scene. Conceived in the form of a constellation bringing together different local partners, this project presents ten artists mainly from art schools in the Great West.
Although the Distant Stars exhibition takes its title from an eponymous novel by the Chilean author Roberto Bolaño (1953 – 2003), it borrows neither its historical foundations nor the darkness of its plot. From more distant echoes, it perhaps owes him a certain idea of the role of creation in an environment surrounded by chaos, or even a form of poetic and political obsession nourished by a constellation of beings animated by a desire to change.
In Nantes and in the region, these exhibitions reflect the plurality of these ways of looking at the world. Without following a theoretical or formal line that would determine their particular tone, they are pervaded by the same concerns, hopes and demands that cross, today perhaps a little more than before, society as a whole.
