Produce, constitute, disseminate and democratize a collection of contemporary art…

A Frac, or Regional Contemporary Art Fund, is much like a museum: it collects, preserves, and exhibits artworks, while creating original encounters between the public, artists, and their work. What makes a Frac unique is its focus on acquiring pieces each year from living artists. The collection of the Frac des Pays de la Loire brings together a wide range of artistic practices and now includes over 2,000 works.

Located in Carquefou, the Frac’s site welcomes visitors year-round, with a program that evolves in step with its exhibitions. Supporting innovative artistic projects is one of its core missions—but its work doesn’t stop there. Each year, artworks leave the collection’s reserves to engage with audiences across the region. The Frac organizes exhibitions and workshops in schools, high schools, community centers, hospitals, libraries, museums, and art spaces, paying special attention to areas with limited access to cultural resources.

The Frac also develops participatory programs designed to help people connect with the artworks, explore their meanings, and make them their own.
